Corrections and retractions
ErrataS&V considers all articles online as the final publication. When checking the proofs, authors are giving the opportunity to check for errors. However, occasionally, errors may occur in a published article. An erratum is a statement provided to remedy the situation caused by any correction(s) resulting from errors or omissions. Errata should be submitted through online manuscript submission system or send by email directly to the journal's editorial office (including submission ID in the text). The corrected article is not removed from the online journal, but notice of erratum is given. The Erratum is made freely available to all readers and is linked to the corrected article.
S&V publishes corrections of correcting errors of metadata and errors of a scientific nature that do not alter the overall work reported of a published article. The addition of new data is not permitted. The editor who handled the article will be consulted if necessary.
Retractions
A retraction is a notice that the published paper should not be regarded as part of published literature. The primary purpose of retractions is to correct the literature and ensure its integrity rather than to punish authors who misbehave. Retractions are issued for major errors or clear evidence that the findings are unreliable, either as a result of misconduct (e.g. data fabrication) or honest error (e.g. miscalculation or experimental error), the findings have previously been published elsewhere without proper crossreferencing, permission or justification (i.e. cases of redundant publication), it constitutes plagiarism or it reports unethical research.
The Retraction will be assigned to the editor in chief of the journal, and the editor, and the managing editor who handled the paper. Retracted articles should not be removed from printed copies of the journal (e.g. in libraries) nor from electronic archives but their retracted status should be indicated as clearly as possible. Notice of retraction is linked to the retracted article and are freely available to all readers.
Articles may be retracted by their author(s) or by the journal editor, or the publisher. In all cases, the retraction indicates the reason for the action and who is responsible for the decision. If a retraction is made without the unanimous agreement of the authors, that is also noted.
In rare and extreme cases, the Publisher may remove an article. Bibliographic information about the article will be retained to ensure the integrity of the scientific record.
